8th Jan Clock Tower Run
Quite a fast one for the Clock Tower run this morning - and I have to say Liz, our newest member, did an amazing job keeping up.
There were 7 of us to start with, but Brian peeled off in Cookham leaving 6 us to cycle through Marlow and up the hill to Frieth. I was a bit naughty and drafted Brett all the way up - but I know how he likes to be pushed, and it meant I worked harder than usual to keep up. We then enjoyed a lovely descent to Hambledon through Fingest, and on to Henley. 3 of us then pushed along the road to Sonning (I think I got a bit of a reputation as I drafted again - only becuase at this point I was not fast enough to get to the front!) and onto the A4. That when things got a bit too interesting - one of the guys' (and I hate to admit I cant remember your name...) rear mechs completely sheared off, the chain broke and the rear mech ended up a mangled mess - with one man lying in the middle of the road and the rest of us narrowly missing a pile up. A bit too exciting on the A4, with some furious hooting from a motorist - it could have been quite nasty but luckily everyone was OK. More than could be said for the Genesis bike which was completely unridable. Liz needed to get home so I rode off with her and Brett leaving the other 3 to wait for the mercy van (the wife...) to arrive. Hope you all got back safely...
Anyway, 39 miles, ave speed 16.2mph, 1200 feet of climbing.
