SIMON TAKES THE BRONZE MEDAL IN HIS CATEGORY WHILE PETE FINISHES 7TH IN HIS VERY COMPETITIVE GROUP.

Pete finished out of the top 10 last year so well done to him to move up to 7th. Terrific ride from Simon to repeat his bronze medal winning ride of last year finishing the undulating course in 49:59. MDCC sends Simon warmest congratulations. Simon's account of his weekend in Wales is given below.

BTTC 2010

A weekend was made of it as my wife came with me.
On the way down to Wales we called in to look at the track in Newport as I had not been before. Arrived at Llandeilo at about 4.00pm and had a ride round the course in the car, along with quite a few others doing the same thing. Arrived at our rather nice B&B 16 miles further on just past Llandovery about 6.00 and went for a walk in the Welsh countryside to stretch the legs. One of the warmest days of the year we were told. Up at 6.45am and ready to warm up at 8.50am. Good warm up and off at 9.21. Legs still feeling a bit dead after the 2 12 hour events but was going well although I was caught by Mr Herring who I assumed was my main opposition at about 15miles for 1 minute. Held on to him as best I could to finish with 49.59 and my bronze medal. Tom Cox who I also expected to beat me was 4th and the winner came from nowhere to beat Mr Herring by a few more seconds. Interesting that the winner was 59, Mr Herring is 58 and me at 57. If I wait 2 years until they move up to the 60+ group I might stand a chance of the gold. Waited and chatted with other riders including the new champion, who got a very nice jersey for his efforts, until we watched Bradley doing a great ride to take the gold.
The drive home though the Breacon Beacons and the M4 was completed in 3.5 hours to come home to house full of young people and off to the last Viceroy to spend yet more money on a meal for my 23 year old daughter and her friends.

A very good weekend.
Simon.
