MDCC Open '10' Marlow / Bridlington CC '10'
Our open event this morning at least avoided the rain but a north easterly wind blowing the riders to the turn at the Thicket proved less helpful on the return journey. Overall it seemed to produce slower times today than on our usual course on the A4. Danuta Tinn [pb Science] was the only lady taking part and was a little disappointed with her time but at least she had the satisfaction of taking the Ladies prize. Fastest man was Justyn Cannon [ Royal Air Force CC ] but who said his time was over a minute and a half outside his personal best.
Of our own riders fastest was Simon Greenland but generally most MDCC riders had hoped for a faster day.
Perhaps they should have travelled north with Pete Weir yesterday to the Bridlington CC '10' where Pete finished in 5th place to Michael Hutchinson. Pete's time of 19:42 was only 3 seconds outside the club record that he set earlier in the year and we can be proud of the fact that he was the top club rider as opposed to the teams that so often rule the roost in events.. Hutch who has been after the '10' comp. record after breaking it once already this summer failed to do so but his 18:03 was still very close.
One disappointment for the Club was the low entry of only 20 riders in today's Open '10'. The Committee intend discussing this situation that has also been the case in our other events with a view to what open events we will promote next year.
Thank you to all those who helped organisers Peter and Paul on the event. I would like to name them all as they could have been riding this or another event but chose to help us. The Club cannot function without members being willing to give something back.
