Performance Enhancements

Hi

I have read Jon Cromptons Forum on imrpoving performance but at 63 I have to be a bit more realsitic about what I may achieve.

I have only been cycling in time trials for less than 2 years. My sporting activities before that were squash, football, cricket and sometimes tennis. Practically no history of cycling.

I am really enjoying cycling and trying to improve my time. My immediate aim is to get down below 30m. I achieved 30m 37s last Thursday.

In August last year I bought a standard Planet X Stealth Pro Carbon.
I have only started using it this year and have done less than 10 TT on it. Still getting used to it and the position. I cannot currently managed the correct position for the whole 10 miles.

When I have achieved the full potential of the bike what would be the suggestions for performance gains from upgrading equipment.
For shoes I use a pair of Mountain Bikes shoes. Would a proper pair of cycling shoes make much difference?
Would a pair of lighter/better wheels be worth buyer and if so what would be the amount worth spending. I have looked at spending £800 on a pair.

What about gear trains. Is there much to be gained here?

I draw a line at an aerodynamic helmet.

I just want to achieve as good a time as possible without over training(I am no spring chicken)or spending lots of money for not much return.

Regards
Les
