Sportive Trophy 2014

The sportive scene continued to grow in 2014 with a wide variety of events available.  Surely a club record turnout for a sportive was achieved with the 19 club members who took part in this year's Ride London 100.  It was just a shame that the route (rightly) had to be shortened as a result of torrential rain.

With 3-time winner Heather concentrating on speed rather than distance this year, the door was open for a new name on the club's John Parfitt Sportive Trophy.  Sarah was this year's winner with over 1,000 miles of Sportive and Audax riding in 2014 (and that doesn't include another 1,000 miles on her Land's End to John O'Groats trip!).  Sarah's rides included the 300km as one of the three members who visited Magnus for his annual trip around a Swedish lake in June.  However that wasn't actually the most distant sportive as I missed the annual club dinner in January for a ride in Adelaide which helped me into second place.  The Swedish event wasn't even the longest ride of the year as John Irwin, Sarah and I completed the Dean Audax, a 307km day trip from Oxford to Wales and back.  This together with a number of other long Audaxes saw John achieve third place.  It was good to see new member Taran in fourth place thanks mainly to a number of Evans-sponsored rides.

Results:
1.  Sarah Davies        1,033 miles
2.  David Dyer               909 miles
3.  John Irwin                799 miles
4.  Taran Panesar          564 miles
